Welcome to Flow’s Special Issue on Latin American media! Since the inception of this online journal, we have aspired to include as wide a range of topics as there are scholars in media, and this issue is another reflection of that ongoing effort.

The scholars represented here offer a wide variety of styles, content, and interests, many of which may not be familiar to our general readership, especially those readers in the United States. We invite everyone to explore these topics, whatever your background — and based on the interactivity with our readers we’ve seen throughout our publication’s history, we’re confident that you will.

A note on format, which is different than our standard layout: for each article, the Spanish or Portuguese version precedes the English translation. To go straight to the English translation, you may click a link immediately below the title of the article, and you will jump to the English version of the article. Additionally, to minimize unnecessary redundancy, and the overall length of each entry, images are positioned in the Spanish or Portuguese text only, and there is only one bibliography per article. There are links to take you to a bibliography if it doesn’t happen to be located in the English translation.

Finally, we invite you to participate in Flow by posting your responses, thoughts, and questions in the Comments sections beneath the articles.

¡Bienvenido al número especial de Flow sobre medios en Latinoamérica! Desde la concepción de este journal en línea, hemos deseado incluir un amplio rango de temas académicos, y esta edición refleja este esfuerzo.

Los investigadores que aquí se exponen ofrecen una extensa variedad de estilos, contenidos e intereses, muchos de los cuales no serán muy familiares a nuestro lector común, en particular a nuestros lectores en los Estados Unidos. Por ello le invitamos a explorar estos temas, independientemente de su formación académica o profesional. Con base en el intercambio continuo que hemos tenido con nuestros lectores, estamos confiados en que lo harán.

El presente número merece un comentario sobre el formato, el cual es diferente a nuestro diseño regular: para cada artículo, la versión en español o portugués precede a la traducción en inglés. Para pasar directo a la traducción en inglés, presione la liga electrónica que se encuentra inmediatamente debajo del título del artículo. Además, para agilizar el acceso, las imágenes se encuentran exclusivamente en los textos en español y portugués, y sólo hay una sección para bibliografía por artículo. También hay ligas electrónicas que llevan a la sección de bibliografía cuando ésta no se encuentra localizada en la versión en español.

Finalmente, invitamos a nuestro lector a participar en Flow enviándonos sus opiniones y/o preguntas a la sección de “Comentarios” que se encuentra en la parte inferior de los artículos.
